The section that decides CLB 10
Writing 7.5 and Listening 8.5 together. Either one alone is achievable for an advanced candidate. Holding both in the same sitting, alongside Reading 8.0, is what makes CLB 10 rare. Because the gain over CLB 9 is 12 points, it is worth a retake only when you are already at CLB 9 everywhere and a draw cut-off is a few points away.
CLB 10 IELTS FAQs
What IELTS score is CLB 10?
CLB 10 is IELTS General Training Listening 8.5, Reading 8.0, Writing 7.5 and Speaking 7.5. Any band above those floors, up to 9.0, is also CLB 10 or higher for IRCC's purposes.
How many CRS points is CLB 10 worth?
Thirty-four points per ability without a spouse or partner and thirty-two with one. That is 136 or 128 points for all four abilities, the maximum for a first official language.
Is CLB 10 worth it over CLB 9?
It is worth 12 more points across all four abilities without a spouse, and nothing in skill transferability. Compare that with the step from CLB 8 to CLB 9, which is worth 32 language points plus up to 50 transferability points. Chase CLB 9 first.
Is there a CLB 11 or CLB 12 in IELTS?
The benchmark scale runs to 12, but IRCC's IELTS table stops at CLB 10 and above, and its points grids treat CLB 10 or more as one band. A higher IELTS score does not earn more immigration points than CLB 10.
